Motor insurance premiums hit highest levels

Motor insurance premiums reached their highest ever levels in the third quarter of 2016, according to stats released by the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

Between October and November, the average comprehensive car insurance policy hit £462, the highest it’s ever been since Q2 2012.

It increased by almost five per cent compared to the previous quarter meaning UK drivers paid an extra £22 for insurance in Q3.

For 2016 as a whole, the average car insurance premium was 9.3 per cent higher than 2015, painting a bleak picture for UK motorists.

Was the same felt for van insurance?

While ABI’s statistics refer to motor insurance premiums, they really focus purely on car insurance.

We delved into quote data on The Van Insurer to find out whether the same trends applied to van drivers and their insurance.

Based on The Van Insurer stats, Q3 was also the most expensive quarter for average van insurance premiums as well.

However the good news for van drivers is that average insurance premiums have dropped dramatically in January.

In fact average van insurance premiums in January 2017 were at their lowest since June 2016.
