It is not everyday that you replace a van fleet with a fleet of hatchbacks, but a Nottingham-based lift supplier, Morris Vermaport is making that change.

Morris Vermaport is confident that they are moving in the right direction to reduce their whole-life costs with the change from vans to hatchbacks, since the replacement hatchbacks are the fuel-efficient Toyota hybrids, the Prius model to be precise. With the fuel efficient Prius’, the company is looking for a significant reduction in whole-life costs and also looking to benefit their drivers as well.
The Morris Vermaport company has been in the business of designing and providing lifts for goods, passengers, and platforms in the United Kingdom for over three decades.
Up until lately, Vermaport’s 30 service engineers who are home-based, utilized conventional non-Toyota crew-vans to get to their customers throughout the country. However, when a one of the engineers begin working on a project in London last October, Andy Waddell, who is Vermaport’s Operations Director made the suggestion to employ the use of a Toyota Prius for the purpose of saving on congestion charging.
The official word on the combined fuel consumption numbers for the Prius is 72mpg, and starting at 89g/km for CO2 emissions.
Mr Waddell stated that fuel is a huge factor for Vemaport and that the company had been spending £13,000 to run the vans. He went on to point out that the Toyota Prius’ cost a £100 a month more for hire than the crew-vans but that the Prius provided twice as many miles to the gallon.
