Van MOT tests will change as of January 2012 as new, more rigorous checks and measures are introduced. These changes will be implemented in response to technological advances in van manufacturing and also as part of a road safety improvement initiative.
The new test will now cover things such as Electronic Stability Control and anti-lock brake systems. These features are becoming standard in the manufacture of new vans, so tests are upgrading to fit with changing times. It’s hoped that improvements to MOT testing will help reduce accidents out on the roads, as recent surveys have seen drivers admitting failure when it comes to sorting out problems with their vehicles.
Alastair Peoples, Vehicle and Operator Services Agency Chief Executive: “The MoT test is designed to make sure that a vehicle is fit to be on the road and so it needs to be updated to reflect new vehicle technology.
“We have worked with the industry to prepare them for these changes to make sure that the measures are introduced in the least burdensome way possible.”
