Van Insurance in the United Kingdom – Van Drivers Know More about Vehicles than Any Other Motorists

Friday, March 26 2010

In a survey conducted by Swinton Insurance, it was revealed that van drivers have better knowledge of their vehicles than other motorists do. The survey that covered 1,500 motorists uncovered statistics such as, that 97% of van drivers knew how to change a tyre compared to 76% of the automobile drivers.

Since van drivers in the United Kingdom typically drive longer distances than automobile drivers, it makes sense that the van drivers are more familiar with such facts as the proper tyre pressure, with 81% knowing this basic fact as opposed to only 20% of the automobile drivers knowing the proper inflation level.

Swinton car insurance says that is a good idea for all people who operate motor vehicles to know enough about their vehicle to be able to do some basic tasks  such as,  check the tyre pressure, check the oil, check coolant levels, be able to change a tyre, and be able to replace a worn windscreen wiper.

Phil Moss, who is the commercial vehicle manager at Swinton, believes that it is a good thing that our van insurance customers have such a great knowledge about their vehicles, but it is of some concern that many automobile drivers are lacking in basic vehicle knowledge. He went on to say that all drivers need to know the basics about their vehicles and should not need to count on others to perform routine maintenance duties such as, putting air in tyres, and checking and adding oil. Moss believes that if drivers could just perform basic maintenance that it could result in a reduction of unnecessary insurance claims.
