Recently it was discovered by Swinton, a UK van insurance retailer, that van drivers were the least likely of motorists to file an insurance claim. This information was obtained in a poll of 1,500 of Swinton’s commercial van insurance customers.
Van insurance comparison from The Van Insurer
In the survey that was taken by this UK van insurance retailer, it was discovered that over 70 per cent of commercial van drivers would rather cover minor incidents out of their own pocket than to file an insurance claim. The reason that the commercial van drivers are willing to do this is so that they can keep their no claims discount.
It was also revealed in this survey that almost one third of those surveyed would not bother with getting minor scratches and dents fixed, if it meant that they could keep their no claims discount.
The two reasons that were the most common among van drivers for not filing insurance claims were to keep their no claims discount and that minor dents and scrapes to the outside of a van were not something to be immediately concerned about. Other reasons given for not wanting to file an insurance claim were not having enough time and wanting to dodge paying any excess.
The survey revealed that car drivers were the top ones in most likely to file an insurance claim, with motorcyclists right behind them.
Phil Moss, of Swinton Commercial advises van drivers to make all needed repairs. If they would like to keep their no claims discount, paying up front is a way to do this while at the same time making sure that their vehicle remains safe to drive.
