John Kerswill and Ian McKeanas were awarded the Van Safety award by the TomTom Business solutions division. The two won the award for their stellar performance at the 2010 MPG Marathon. John and Ian won the award as a team as they gave an almost perfect driving performance during the two-day, 400- mile driving marathon that took place close to Stratford-upon-Avon.

All of this year’s van contestants in the MPG Marathon had a TomTom LINK tracking box installed on the van that in addition to providing accurate mileage numbers for the vans also revealed interesting habits such as hard braking and steering through the TomTom device. The TomTom device records the hard braking and steering as driver events.

With Tom behind the wheel of a Fiat Doblo van and Ian giving directions, the pair had only one driving event during the entire two days drive. Two of the van teams were tied for second place that each had four driving events.

The smooth and gentle driving of John and Ian enabled the pair to attain an impressive 58.9mpg, which is 24.9 per cent better than the official manufacture’s numbers.

The Van Safety award is endorsed by the Department of Transport van Best Practice initiative that seeks to acknowledge efficient and safe driving practices in the LCV category.
