According to an in depth study of some 65,000 clients of Swinton Commercial Vehicle Insurance, the self-employed make up 35% of van drivers. The in depth study by Swinton Commercial also revealed that well over ninety percent of van divers were of the male gender and were on average thirty-seven years of age.

The study by Swinton was conducted in preparation for the launch of a new van insurance program by Swinton, known as their “Quote and Buy” scheme, this scheme will present Swinton customers with a market-topping offering of a one-third discount on all new policies.
Commercial vehicles are still heavily depended on by traditional tradesmen, with seventeen percent of van drivers working in the building field, followed by five percent of van drivers working in the painting and decorating field, then five percent joiners, four percent working as landscapers, and four percent in the carpentry field.
As well has showing what percent of occupations drove vans, the study also shown that the van that most workers preferred was the Ford Transit; with twenty-three percent preferring the popular van by Ford.
According to a spokesperson for Swinton, the tradesmen and commercial vehicle operators make up an important part of our economy and we ought to recognize the labour they perform day in and day out-especially during these trying times. The Swinton spokesperson went on to say that Swinton was offering the one-third off discount to help workers during these tough economic times.
