Tuesday, August 3 2010

Next month the Ford Transit, an iconic Ford van will celebrate a significant milestone, its 45th birthday. The Ford Transit van, which has enjoyed 45 years of success, and has paved the way for the ever-present white van , has been a leader in the UK ever since some notable events in recent history. Events such as Jim Clark winning the Indianapolis 500 and the F1 World Championship, the television debut of Tom and Jerry and Thunderbirds, the release of the musical classic ‘The Sound of Music’ and when a lady named Mary Quant invented a little dress known as the mini-skirt. The Ford Transit van has seen a lot of history since its inception.

When the Ford Transit was first launched, the cheapest Transit model, which came with a short wheelbase, a petrol engine and had a payload of 610kg, had a price tag of £542. The top of the line For Transit at first launch was a 15-seater Custom bus that had a price tag of £997. In 1965 there where 78 variations of the Ford Transit that number has grown to 600, which provides a good range of commercial vans to make sure that there is a Transit model to fit any job that might arise.

The current Ford Transit still provides an awesome value. This year a special edition “Sapphire” is being produced to commemorate four and a half decades of success for the Ford Transit.
