Swinton Commercial Warns Van Drivers About Driving While on Drugs

Tuesday, October 5 2010

Swinton Commercial is admonishing van drivers about the perils of operating a motor vehicle while using drugs. This warning by Swinton comes after George Michael’s conviction of driving under the influence of drugs and a sentence of eight weeks in jail that followed.

Swinton made their case about the dangers of driving while impaired by drugs after Michael ran his Range Rover right into a London shop while he was under the influence of cannabis, a drug that happens to be an illegal class C drug. Even though it is against the law to drive while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, the lack of a drug testing kit for drivers makes a minority of drivers think that they can get away with driving while on drugs.

However, driving under the influence of drugs can hinder a drivers concentration, slow their reaction time, cause erratic or aggressive behaviour, lead to fatigue and cause dizziness. Swinton is even cautioning van drivers about driving while taking everyday prescription drugs, since some prescription drugs can impair a drivers driving ability. Swinton advises van drivers taking prescription drugs to read the label on the drug bottle and not to get behind the wheel until it is safe to.

Phil Moss of Swinton reminds van drivers that any substance that hinders their ability to drive safely, whether it is alcohol, illegal drugs or even prescription medicine is very dangerous.
