The Fuelcard Company, who is a leading fuel card reseller, has asked the Government to prioritize the maintaining of road after a study has shown that 14% of motorists have suffered an accident due to swerving to miss a pothole, this amounts to almost 5.5 million citizens in the United Kingdom.

In a survey conducted by an insurance company of 4,000 motorists, it was discovered that the same amount had slid on a bad road surface and had wrecked their vehicle.
In addition to causing problems for four-wheeled forms of transportation, potholes have also been proving to be hazardous to those on two wheels as well. Cyclists have made 699 reports concerning allegedly unsafe roads damaged in the UK to the CTC, a cycle campaign group. In a tragic accident earlier this year, a Brit soldier who was cycling close to Tidworth at Wiltshire met his death by a lorry after the soldier had swerved to miss a deep hole.
The statistics show that 52% are not happy with the condition that the roads are currently in, this is the highest level of dissatisfaction in 10 years, and 58% stated that the repair of roads and road maintenance should be first on the list for the new government administration. Additional statistics show how bad the problem is with UK roads; numbers from the AA show that insurance claims due to damage from potholes have risen 600% in three years and just in February alone, motorists reported 1,900 claims, which cost insurance companies £2.85 million.
The bottom line is that potholes in the UK is costing lives and money, the question posed to the incoming government is, what are you going to do about it?
