No Incentives for Green Hauling

Thursday, March 25 2010

According to the Transport Exchange Group, vans and trucks that are involved in the haulage industry are not being considered by the government when they are doling out green incentives.

The Transport Exchange Group believes that there should be more incentives for owners and operators who are trying to be more eco-friendly. Even though there is great potential and an excellent opportunity to reduce carbon footprints in the transportation industry, there is not much being done to encourage the companies in this industry to make changes that could have a positive impact on our environment. Lyall Cresswell, the Managing Director of the Transport Exchange Group, said that there are for the most part plenty of incentives to be environmentally friendly, but not many of those incentives are coming to the haulage companies and the operators. Cresswell stated these haulage companies and operators are on their own as they struggle against costs that keep rising, an increased level of competition, and profit margins that are shrinking.

Cresswell is of the belief the transport industry has been neglected by the Government. With such a wide array of incentives for house-owners and business owners to embrace different energy conserving steps, the haulage companies and the whole transport industry are offered null. Instead, they are faced with the highest fuel tax in Europe on top of other taxes. Cresswell stated there is something amiss here. With road transport accounting for a large amount of the UK’s carbon emissions, if the Government is truly serious about reducing carbon emissions dramatically by 2050, it needs to include all sectors.
