The driving force behind the financial savings and a host of other health and safety worker’s benefits is something that is known as the Hermes Driving School, a driving school that has played a vital part in making sure that the company’s drivers, both the ones employed by Hermes and agency drivers as well, are in line with Hermes’ industry-topping safe driving standards.
This focus on safe-driving practices for the period of 2009/2010 compared to 2008/2009 resulted in:
A drastic improvement of 109% of days with 0% accidents days per vehicle from 216 days to 434 days that resulted in a reducing of vehicle downtime and a reduction in the expense of vehicle replacement.
A healthy improvement of 47% in the rate of accidents, which included minor bumps, dents, and scratches per vehicle, 1.44 to 0.75.
A reducing of 41.8% in the amount of recorded accidents from 620 to 361 throughout the commercial vehicle fleet.
A slashing of 33.5% in the expense of incidents, a savings of £240,000.
While accidents are seemingly just a part of the business, it is refreshing to see a company such as Hermes making a difference through their focus on safety.
