Ford Transit Benefits Disabled Ski Team

Ford has supplied transport to benefit disabled Service personal in learning a new sporting skill as a part of the rehabilitating process.

For the second year in a row Ford as allowed the Combined Services Disabled Ski Team to use a Transit minibus. The Transit minibus the team will be using is a Tourneo 280SWB model that seats nine; the Ford minibus was delivered to the director of the ski team, Major Ian Large by David Petts, Transit brand manager.

The minibus will get right to work hauling team members and their disabled ski gear to the Stubai glacier next month where the team will undergo training. For the rest of the winter the Transit minibus will be shuttling the team round the Alps for the Inter-Service Championships.

Anyone who is a disabled service personal from the Army, Navy or Air Force can become a part of the Combined Services Disabled Ski Team. Those who have the ability to race undergo a comprehensive training programme that involves coaching and instructing on being self-sufficient out on the ski slopes.

The top ski team members participate in Services ski contests during the winter that culminates with the Inter-Services Ski and Snowboarding Championships that are held in Méribel, France, with the ones who ski the best going on to competitions around the world. At present time, the team has three who are members of the British Disabled Ski Team, who are looking towards competing in the 2014 Winter Paralympics to be held in Russia.
