Ford Transit AWD

Thursday, October 8 2009

Driving a Ford Transit minibus just got a little safer. Ford’s 15-seat transit minibus is now available with their all-wheel-drive system. Ford’s (AWD) system makes driving safer by transferring torque flow to the front wheels whenever it detects that the back wheels are losing traction.

The AWD system is currently available on the rear-wheel- drive-chassis-cab, 15-passenger minibus, and the Transit panel van, which includes low, medium and high roof models and long, medium, and short wheelbase derivatives.

The AWD system goes into action automatically, which keeps the driver from being distracted by having to engage AWD manually. When a van equipped with an AWD system encounters a slippery spot in the road, the AWD system transfers drive to the front wheels to help provide greater traction and lessen the wheel spin from the rear wheels.

Ford’s AWD system comes with a price tag, an additional £3,995. Even though it takes more money, the system does not take up a lot of extra space. Vans equipped with an AWD system retain standard ground clearance, no need for a massive differential housing since AWD system is compact and lightweight.

The AWD system may be more expensive, but for those who drive a Ford minibus day in and day out, the AWD may well be worth the extra money.
