It seems that there is a percentage of fleet drivers who are guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a large enough percentage that one group has decided to take action. The Fleet Safety Forum, a part of the road safety charity, Brake, has launched a campaign that has issued a clarion call to fleets requesting that they make sure that their drivers are not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; the campaign is known as ‘Face Facts’.

Those who manage fleets can place an order for a poster and an e-guidance campaign packet that can be used to alert drivers and fleet managers to the hazards of driving under the influence of alcohol or of drugs. The packet also contains information that explains how to recognize drivers who are operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs and preventive measures that fleets can take to stop such behaviour
.
The sobering poster, ‘Face Facts’, features a drivers face that is split in half, one side of the face is not under the influence of alcohol or drugs while the other side of the face shows someone who is clearly under the influence of some mind-altering substance. The ‘Face Facts” poster was sponsored by Dtec International, a drug screening and testing company and is the first poster in a series of posters to be used to increase awareness of Brake’s Pledge2DriveSafely’s seven golden rules. The e-guidance that comes in the packet shows how to recognize drinking and drug abuses on the job by using screening and testing and also explains how to promote a programme of zero tolerance alcohol and drugs.
They say that the first hurdle to overcoming a problem is admitting that you have one, with the Fleet Safety Forum recognizing the problem of driving under the influence and by taking pro-active measures to prevent it, this deadly combination of driving and indulging in alcohol or drugs can hopefully be curtailed.
