Being conscious of the effect that carbon emissions from a vehicle can wreak on our planet during the entire life of the vehicle, Renault has been busy for several years working towards making ongoing improvements concerning the imprint that a vehicle will leave on the environment during every stage of its life, which includes production, use, and recycling. As shown by their eco² programme, Renault feels that it is important to make sure that the very best technologies are accessible to as many drivers as possible at a cost that they can afford.

Electrically-powered vehicles provide a clean-break solution for providing CO2 free emissions mobility something that is an option for all. In their bid for being the best low CO2 European auto manufacturer, Renault is attacking this goal on two main fronts:
By introducing the latest technological advances for power trains powered by internal combustion components and by having a never done before commitment to produce total-electric vehicles.

It is estimated by Renault that electrically-powered vehicles could account for 10% of the global vehicle sales by 2020.
