The 2010 Caravelle will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder common rail diesel engine, which will replace the former five-cylinder engine. There is the option to have a 140 PS TDI or a twin-turbo 180 PS BiTDI engine in the new Caravelle. These engines in the 2010 Caravelle will provide more torque and power than the previous engine with the 340Nm that delivers 1,750 rpm or 400Nm that delivers 1,500 rpm.

The new Caravelle engine specifications also will offer lower running cost. This is due to the longer time intervals between servicing and an improvement in fuel usage. In addition to being more economic to drive, the 2010 Caravelle offers a lowering of perceived noise levels of up to 50% and a reduction of emissions to Euro5 standards.

Both of the engines that are offered in the new Volkswagen Caravelle have the option of having the new DSG 7-speed auto transmission instead of the six-speed manual gearbox. Further on in 2010, the DSG transmission will be available with 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
