Ford is moving ahead with the electric version of the Ford transit Connect, and is working with Europe’s Smith Electric to take the Transit Connect battery powered van to the United States in 2010.

The battery powered of the Ford Transit Connect is stated to be able to go 60 miles on one battery charge of its lithium-ion-battery; there will also be the option to have a Transit Connect that will be able to go 100 miles on a single charge.

As more and more commercial van manufactures, such as Ford, incorporate battery powered vehicles into their fleet, it is going to be interesting see how it works out. Will more and more electric vehicles drive up the price of electricity? Will more vehicles running on electricity drive down the price of oil? Will more electric vehicles have a major impact on our environment? These are questions that only time will tell the answer; meanwhile Ford is moving forward with an electric version of the Ford Transit Connect.
