Details of the Grip Control System from Peugeot: Operating modes

The Grip Control System that is a part of the ” All terrain Option Package’ available on Peugeot Partner vans is designed to help vans to have optimal traction on the road surface. The system accomplishes this by using intelligent electronic controls that are fitted inside the ESP electric control unit. By exercising control over the system via electronics, the system is more proficient than a traditional mechanically limited slip differential. There are five different operating modes that operators can choose from that are accessed by a dedicated control that is affixed to the central fascia panel.

The five operating modes are as follows:

1. The Standard mode- The Standard mode involves the ESP being set for a low level of wheel slippage that is founded on the different grip levels that are common to road surfaces.

2. The Snow mode- The Snow mode adapts the setting of the system to give the best traction for each one of the front wheels as the van is pulling off. As a van builds up speed, the system makes the most of the traction control to assure the best acceleration possible considering the current grip conditions; the van goes back to standard mode when the van exceeds 31 mph.

3. The All-Terrain mode- The All-terrain mod is suited for mud, wet grass, etc…, it lets the least stable wheel slip the most in order to remove mud and help grip. While this wheel is slipping, the wheel with the best grip is provided as much torque as can be delivered.

4. The Sand mode- This mode lets both the wheels to slip slightly at the same time to lower the risk of being stuck in the sand.

5. The ESP mode- The ESP mode provides the opportunity to disengage the dynamic stability control (ESP) control and the Grip control up to 31mph, which gives the driver full control of their vehicle.
