RAC, a UK car and van insurer who also provides breakdown cover and roadside assistance, shared some interesting stories from their breakdown Patrols.

RAC responds to over 2.7 million breakdowns during the course of a year and each one of them is different. RAC has almost 2000 patrols out on the United Kingdom roads, here are a few of the stranger and more amusing calls that they have responded to lately:
1. The RAC patrol was called to a car on the drive that refused to start. The RAC Patrol quickly discovered the problem; someone had removed the engine.
2. A Land Rover was stuck in a ditch during a recent bout of bad weather, the RAC Patrol responded to the call. A 4×4 that passed by was unable to get the Land Rover out of the ditch, so RAC found the nearest farmer; the farmer had a 4×4 tractor but it was not operational. The RAC Patrol fixed the farmer’s tractor and then the farmer with his tractor and the RAC Patrol got the Land Rover out of the ditch. It was a good example of teamwork and some free labour as well.
3. One Patrol was called to retrieve a member’s locked in keys, they tried to remove the keys by removing a rear speaker and trying to catch the keys on an extendable rod. The attempt failed so the Patrol offered to take the member to get the spare keys, as they walked to the RAC van the car mysteriously unlocked itself; due to a rogue swede that came out of a shopping bag and hit the unlock feature on the keys. It seems like all the prodding around paid off.
