Crash for Cash Ups Van Insurance Premiums

Sunday, April 4 2010

The past few years have seen an increasing number of phoney insurance claims as the amount of cash for crash incidents increase. The phrase ‘cash for crash’ is used to describe an accident when someone is the cause of an accident and then tries to make it appear as if the accident is another person’s fault. One of the more common tricks used by these malcontents is disconnecting their brake lights on their vehicle and then making a quick, sudden stop in front of another driver.

Interestingly, many of these fraudsters are of high standing in society and have professional occupations, yet are in league with other fraudsters to make sure their success on these fraudulent claims. It is estimated that this unsavoury practice by these deceitful drivers is costing the United Kingdom’s insurance industry 200 million pounds per year. One of the hardest regions to be hit with this problem, is Northern England, Bradford being the area with the most ‘cash for crash’ incidents, according to information supplied by the Insurance Fraud Bureau. Because of this increase in this type of insurance fraud in the past few years, the National Fraud Bureau and the Insurance Fraud Bureau is working in unison to try to put an end to this criminal activity.

A judge in a case that involved a ‘cash for crash’ claim, recently stated that these claims cost the public an estimated £49 for each driver’s premium cost. With factors like this adding to the rising costs of van insurance, van drivers are advised to make sure that their van insurance has provisions that cover anything that might happen.
