Swinton’s poll of 1,000 motorists found that 43 per cent of drivers found that van operators have better manners on the roads than drivers who operate other vehicles on roads in the United Kingdom.

Coming in second in the poll was Lorry drivers,  with 19 per cent of those polled considering them to be the most courteous, with automobile drivers getting a meagre 7 per cent of the votes cast.

The survey also revealed some other interesting statistics about what drivers thought about motorists out on the highways, such as, around 66 per cent of those surveyed believed that the drivers who lacked the most patience were ‘school-run’ parents, that elderly and new drivers were the most dangerous drivers on the roads, and that commercial vehicle operators were the most likely to drive the speed limit.

Phil Moss, of Swinton Commercial stated that even though van drivers are viewed by women as ‘cheeky white van men’, they are often more conscientious drivers on the roads, due to their vans having their company name on the van. Moss also stated that white van drivers drive their vans to make a living, and that usually makes them more safety conscious and a more considerate than other vehicle operators on the highways, our research backs this up.
