Angry Drivers are Troubling to Fleet Managers
According to fleet managers, company drivers who exhibit angry tendencies while driving is what they consider to be their worst problem. FleetDirectory.co.uk, a fleet industry guide conducted a survey of fleets to discover which bad driving trait that they considered to be the worst trait on a list of five of the most common driver related problems.

Angry drivers or drivers exhibiting aggressive behaviour were at the top of the list with a big lead, being 40% of the worst driving habits, with drivers who drive too fast being voted as the second worst problem at 27% of the worst driving habit.
It seemed that fleet managers were the least concerned about poor pedal control, as crunching gears was the problem that got the least amount of votes at 6%, and hitting the brakes too hard only getting 7% of the votes. The problem that comes in third place was drivers who left a mess in their vehicles.
Even though other bad driving traits cause their share of problems, angry, aggressive drivers were the ones that caused the fleet industry the most concern and that with good reason.
When someone loses their temper behind the wheel, it not only causes that person to take excessive risks, but can also encourage other drivers to react the same way. Aggressive driving practices such as cutting a driver up can result in that driver being angered to the point of taking vengeance. Past studies have leaned towards the conclusion that there is a correlation between accidents and aggression in drivers.
Richard Lawton, a spokesperson for FleetDirectory says that fleet drivers need to keep their cool when faced with difficult driving situations, even if they find that they are on the receiving end of aggressive driving behaviour.
The bottom line is that fleet drivers who exercise courtesy, and stay calm in the face of aggressive behaviour can help keep our roads safer and also help their fleet managers sleep better at night.
