Anchor Vans, a leading dealer and Ford-approved servicing centre in the United Kingdom has a unique plan for improving morale and productiveness in the workshop; they have hired a piano player to play in the vehicle servicing area.

The people at Anchor Vans have devised a unique plan to increase productivity at their service centres, it involves a large musical instrument and a corresponding musician. The musical instrument is a piano, and Anchor has hired a professional pianist to come to the Anchor Vans service centre workshop and play some tunes for the Anchor Vans service staff. On Wednesday afternoons, the pianist is at the Anchor Vans service centre providing entertainment to help boost the morale and the productiveness of the service staff.
Simon Joyce, an official with Anchor Vans got the idea for the live music at the workshop from some studies that he had heard that told how changing some simple things in the work environment could improve productiveness and reduce the amount workers staying out of work. There has been much said about how to make the office into a better environment, but little has been done to improve the environment of a vehicle-servicing workshop; Simon is taking steps to change that.
Why piano music? Simon said that he already had his piano temporarily at the shop to free up some space at his residence, so when thought about how improving the workshop environment he thought about how some garages play radio, Simon wanted to do something out of the ordinary-live music. With the piano already at the shop, all was needed to do was to hire a pianist.
Now on Wednesdays, workers enjoy live entertainment as they perform their daily tasks. Kudos’ to Anchor Vans and Simon Joyce to being on the cutting edge in providing a unique and innovative solution to improving the workplace.
