Did you realize that three-quarters of van drivers work for themselves? This figure is revealed by a study of 65,000 Swinton Commercial Vehicle clients. This study also revealed that 96% of the van drivers studied were of the male gender and had an average age of 37.
This study was conducted to get ready for the start of Swinton Commercial’s new van insurance plan that was released last year that gave customers an amazing one third off all new policies.
Commercial vans are still heavily used by tradesmen, with 17% of van drivers in the building industry, 5% in the painting and decorating business, followed up by 5% being joiners, 4% landscaper gardeners, and 4% working in the carpentry field. This study also revealed the main van of choice among the self-employed as the Ford Transit, with a 23% share of the commercial vehicle market.
Steve Chelton of Swinton said the following about the self employed “Commercial vehicle drivers play an important role in our economic system and we ought to celebrate the jobs that they do on a daily business- especially during this difficult time.”
